Episode 5: Nadine Jones, Director of Love a Michigan Vet Project on Giving Back Selflessly, Starting a Non-Profit & the Causes of Homelessness

Nadine Jones, Founder of the Love a Michigan Vet Project.

Nadine Jones, Founder of the Love a Michigan Vet Project.

Nadine Jones comes from a long line of military vets. Both her grandfather and her uncle served in the military. As with many things in life, often we take one path not knowing where it will lead us. Nadine’s path began at AmeriCorps where she worked with veterans to help them gain access to their benefits. She soon realized that there was often a long and difficult path for veteran’s to navigate the complicated bureaucracy of government offices.

She set out to create a non-profit when she realized that there was a need not only to help the vets, but also to create awareness around the issues of homelessness, joblessness, and mental health. Love a Michigan Vet ensures that vets and their families are taken care of.
The organization provides everything from shelter to mental health resources to local veterans. We discuss how the system can be overwhelming for many of them and why some end up on the streets. We also discuss the downsides of social media and giving back selflessly.
